Tiny Cauldrons

Aug 24, 2024

This sparkly bubbling quilt is a quick and easy make.  Using the Pin Drop pattern from Andover, we scaled it down, making it 9 squares across and 10 squares down.  We used the rainbow of colors that is the Tilda Chambray line, with a black woven background.  The background fabric is old (actually using the stash fabric!!), but Fabelism's Forest Forage in Black Beauty or Sprouts in Obsidian would make fantastic replacements.

Due to the smaller size, the fabric requirements are less than the original.  A quarter yard or fat quarter for each color will be more than enough (each color here has 4-5 squares in the quilt).  For the background, you will need 1 1/2 yards of fabric. For the binding, you will need 1/2 yard.

Background cutting is as follows:  12 strips WOF x 3.5", cut into 100 2.5" rectangles.  13 strips WOF x 3.5".  These are the sashing strips, and you will need to cut the last two into 6" rectangles, and add one rectangle onto the end of each of the other 11 WOF strips.  Just follow the pattern for more detailed assembly steps.

Embellishment

If you choose to embellish, the options are endless.  We used flatback crystals, glued down with Liquid Fusion glue.  We also sprinkled in a few fun shapes here and there. You can also sew on beads, the tiny Miyuki Delicas being a good choice.
